The highly anticipated fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has a new date set for November 15. The match will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and will be livestreamed on Netflix as originally planned.
Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), co-founded by Jake Paul, announced the rescheduled date on Friday. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees combat sports, confirmed that the new date had been requested and approved.
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, explained that the fight was moved to ensure both fighters have adequate training time and to keep the event at AT&T Stadium during the Cowboys’ season.
November 15, a Friday, was chosen as the new date, with the Cowboys set to host the Houston Texans the following Monday. The original fight date of July 20 fell on a Saturday.
The announcement of the new date ended speculation about the fate of the postponed fight. Texas officials had indicated on Thursday that the promoter had not yet requested a new date.
“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly,” Tyson said. “…While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake is getting knocked out.”
The fight was initially postponed on May 31 after the 57-year-old Tyson required medical attention for an ulcer flare-up. Lawrence Kosinski, a Chicago-area gastroenterologist and governing board member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), praised the decision to postpone, stating it shows Tyson is prioritizing his gastrointestinal health.
The fight between Tyson and Paul, 27, was announced on March 7 with great excitement and some criticism, including concerns about Tyson’s age and speculation that the fight might be rigged.
Tickets for the fight went on sale on May 16. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, and those unable to attend can request a refund at their original point of purchase until July 8, according to MVP.
